As part of its commitment to advancing the textile and garment industry in Indonesia, Cloami, in partnership with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) hosted a guest lecture titled "Indonesia Textile Industry Outlook" on June 12th, 2024. Held at the Design Centre of ITB’s Faculty of Art and Design, the event aimed to provide students and the public with insights into the textile industry and garment business processes.
"This guest lecture is a golden opportunity for students to gain knowledge outside the campus. We aim to become innovators driving Indonesia's textile industry development," said Dr. Kahfiati Kahdar, M.A. (CSM), who is a member of the Academic Senate for the Craft Study program at the Bandung Institute of Technology.
This event collaborated with ITB’s Craft department, a key part of Indonesia’s art and fashion culture since 1975. Kevin Hansen Kurnia, Director of PT Harapan Kurnia Textile Indonesia (HKTI), served as the guest lecturer, representing Cloami as part of its extensive network. He shared his experience in the textile industry, including operations at his fabric factory in Padalarang, West Java.
The guest lecture event successfully gained enthusiasm from both students and the public participants, with more than 50 participants. The guest lecture then followed with a Fashion Show titled "Explorative," showcasing the final projects of ITB Craft students. Participants also visited Cloami and HKTI’s pop-up booths to explore fabrics and career opportunities in the textile industry.
Hansen Kurnia detailed the fabric-making process, from yarn production to printing, Quality Control, and his factory's commitment to environmental sustainability. According to Hansen, being one of the largest in the world, Indonesia's textile industry offers a prime opportunity for innovation. He added that young professionals can drive economic growth by exploring and collaborating on research, thus creating more jobs domestically.
The material presented was seen as valuable by students, providing detailed insights that they had not encountered in the classroom. Public participants found the event beneficial for gaining business knowledge and networking opportunities. Positive feedback from all attendees also reflected a strong interest in participating in future Cloami events. Many are hoping for similar collaborations to be more frequent, supporting the growth of knowledge and skills in the textile and garment industry.
